Brazil

Overview

The sheer physical scale of Brazil is impressive in itself, add to that the extraordinary wildlife and the character of its people and you will find a wonderful country just waiting to be explored.

‍

Our self drives here really only scratch the surface, but the routes we have chosen will hopefully serve as a great introduction and make for a vibrant and inspiring self drive holiday. Combine that with some of Brazil’s other highlights for a memorable trip. From the vastness of the Amazon rainforest to the mighty power of Iguazu Falls, with a coastline of thousands of miles of wonderful beaches that culminate in the style and indefinable spirit of Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana and Ipanema.

‍

The Pantanal, the world's largest wetland, offers a mind-blowing array of birds and animals. The richness of Brazil's past has left remarkable legacies in towns such as Olinda and Ouro Preto, and in Salvador - whose rich African heritage brings its unique and powerful influence to modern Brazil.

The North East

Located just below the equator, Brazil's remote north-eastern states provide a mix of superb off-the-beaten-track self drive experiences and beautiful unspoilt beaches from Porto Seguro to Natal, Praia Pipa and Fortaleza. The Lençóis Maranhenses is a stunning natural phenomenon of sweeping white dunes and turquoise freshwater lagoons. The coastline here is cut by lush tropical deltas with largely untouched wildlife, unspoiled fishing villages, stunning beaches with small boutique hotels and relaxed resorts, and picturesque towns such as São Luís and Olinda.

The area is shaped by its African influence, its fascinating colonial history, superb climate for most of the year, rich folk culture, awesome music and dance, religion, water sports and gastronomic delights.
